"What's the matter? Aren't you glad we won?" Lucy asked Joey.

Joey grunted something. Lucy thought it was a yes.

"I think the shirts are adorable," said Spider. "I really wish that we had won. We came so close, Albert."

"Yeah, well, in a fair fight we would have," said Albert.

Lucy felt her cheeks flame. "What does that mean, Albert?" she demanded.

"He's just trying to bait you," whispered Spider. "He hates to lose. Don't pay him any attention."

"Albert," warned Mrs. Barber, "be nice."

"I'm always nice," said Albert. Lucy sat on the hump with her knees practically hitting her chin. Had Albert guessed she had cheated?

Lucy took a deep breath. Her father had always told her to count to ten before she lost her temper.

Lucy got to six, but she was still angry. Half of her realized it wasn't Albert's fault. He was making all these innuendos, and Joey was just sitting there like stone.
